This Year...(2019)

Games

A racing spin-off, 2019 saw the debut of "Team Sonic Racing." Although their had been both car-racing games (with the Sega "All-stars") and racing games mixed with plot (the Riders series), this game saw the first combination of the two (excluding the somewhat-obscure 90s ones like "Sonic Drift").

It's gameplay also set to make itself unique by adding it's "team" element, a feature similar to Sonic Heroes.

TSR has been the only game recently and seems quiet about future games, leading to speculation and dreams of "Sonic Adventure 3." I wouldn't go that far.

Animations

The spring saw two surprising shorts created for TSR, similar to last year's Mania Adventures. Comical, they featured Knuckles, Big the Cat, Shadow the Hedgehog, Eggman, and other characters.

Even more surprising was the "Chao in Space" animation that Sega posted just this month. Cute and nostalgic, the focus is shared between Sonic in a Chao Garden and a Chao in a dream space-battle.

Comics

The main focus of IDW's fairly new Sonic comics this year has been the "Metal Virus," a metallic pathogen that's turning the planet into a group of Zombie-like robots. Many characters have unwillingly transformed and tension has continued to boil. Unfortunately, the "Zombot" plot has gotten tiresome for some, and it's continuing into next year.

Meanwhile IDW's new heroes, Tangle and Whisper, have taken on a different threat in their 4-part mini-series. The spin-off explored the duo and could be a sign that IDW might expand on alternate stories (Tangle/Whisper or other characters) in the future. There are plans for a new "annual" already.

Movie

In the summer an unforgettable horror was released upon the world: "movie" Sonic.

Paramont responded to the backlash and took pains to have the CGI-character revised, including enlisting help from Sega's comic/animation go-to-guy, Tyson Hesse.

The cuter Sonic meant the movie would be pushed to February, but it was well worth the wait.

Sonic 06 is Better Than Colors (Conclusion)

06 is not a perfect game. It has flaws in it's story, it's gameplay is a struggle, and in total, it's a case of what "could have" been. Colors, though, is a complete nightmare. It's a story weaker than Infinite (heh-heh, Sonic humor). Whatever "serious" means, think the opposite. The game ruined lovable characters and added useless ones. Meanwhile the pathetic wisps corrupted the levels, making every repetitive act a tiresome chore.

The truth is, Sonic 06 is not nearly as bad as people make it out to be. Many people say "it's terrible" and that it's "the worst," but it's hard to comprehend these claims. If you don't like it because Silver glitched you onto a roof or held you in a never-ending "it's no use" cycle, I understand that.

Yet people don't explain their thoughts. Even when they list a reason, they don't elaborate why it bothers them. Like when someone says, "I don't like 06 because of Elise," is it because she's a human? Or was it because she was a damsel in distress? Or do they think romance slows the plot?

I hope that my posts help explain why I enjoyed Sonic 06 but had a tough time understanding why people like Colors. Really the only part of Colors I find salvageable is trying to strengthen the Sonic-Tails bond, but it really doesn't compare (AoStH had the best Sonic & Tails "brother" relationship).

I stared this "mini series" because my post "Top Ten Reasons Sonic 06 is Better than Colors" became too long by the second reason: I wanted to get my point across.

Full list (1 is least important-10 is most):

Recently tried to censor swear words a bit, correct errors, and fix the links in Part 5 (the "Brawl" YT channel had been removed so half the songs were gone).

Part 1--The Main Screen/menu/Level Navigation/GAME OVER
Part 2--The CG, graphics, and level design
Part 3--The Controls
Part 4--The Level Ups/Power Ups/Upgrades
Part 5.3 (Colors), Part 5.6 (06), Part 5.9 (Conclusion) --The Music
Part 6--The Characters
Part 7--The Conflict/Villains/etc
Part 8--Sonic
Part 9--The Voice Acting
Part 10--The Plot

Maybe since I never knew the whole "Sonic Next Gen" hype and assumed 06 would be the "worst" game, I was able to see the fun in it. But Colors gets so much attention and praise for being at best a just-below-average Wii game.

It's ridiculous how much anger is directed at a 10+ year-old game (2006), but it's even more ridiculous to see Sega bragging "Sonic Team: the Creators of Sonic Generations and Sonic Colors!" To this day, that (2010) game is still given credit and respect when it did nothing to deserve it in the first place. [END]

oh well.

Chao in Space: Rise of Sleepwalker

After plenty of "Chao in Space" posters (seen in Sonic Adventure, SA2, 06, Sonic Gen, etc), Sega's finally given a peek at the fictitious series :D The posters have often referenced Star Wars/Star Trek, and I doubt it's a coincidence they released this while another Star Wars movie is on it's way.

The Death EGG

Another reason to thank Tyson Hesse, this cute animation showed up on twitter for the holidays. It follows a neutral chao "in space," and Sonic trying to take care of the little sleepwalker...

Cameos of Sonic Forces, Mania, and the car from TSR

Adorable, it also has quite a few fun appearances & Easter eggs for fans...

In addition to the return of the Chao Garden and light/dark/neutral chao, Tikal also has a breif cameo

"Chao Soda" is probably a refrence to "Chaos Cola" seen in Sonic Unleashed

ROBOTNIK CLAUS (Sonic's Christmas Blast)

This was awesome. I really like these animated shorts and I hope they're here to stay :)
Merry Christmas (-Happy New Year-) everybody.

Sonic 06 vs Colors (Part 10)

Welcome to the final--and perhaps biggest--reason the hated game Sonic 06 is superior to the praised Sonic Colors.

Part 10: The Plot

Just at a glance, Sonic 06 has a very complex story. Is it confusing/flawed? Yeah. But it also has a lot of depth and exciting moments (believe it or not). Sonic Colors is the complete opposite. It's very simple. So simple it's shallow and worthless. And it has plenty of errors, too.

Sonic 06

Sonic's Story

Despite being the name of the game, Sonic ended up lamely rescuing a princess over and over again. In the first cutscene, it actually seemed like there was a lot of potential. Unfortunately, in the next Elise is taken and so begins the cycle.

Still, the ending with Sonic and Elise escaping Eggman feels like a good victory, and the cutscene looks cool. The laughing is either creepy or cute, but at least it balances the end and beginning (the "smile" thing).

Silver's Story

Silver's story is interesting. Many sci-fi elements and typical Sonic themes like friendship. I wish there was more of an explanation for Blaze's appearance, and the set-up annoyingly avoids a confrontation with Sonic. It's clear there was meant to be more with Amy, too.

There are a few other bothersome parts. Like, ok--Silver's naive--but would he really trust the creepy dude with no mouth after just meeting him? Overall Silver's side of things is all right, but it's still not the best it could be.

Shadow's Story

Shadow's story is almost perfect. It shows how Shadow has changed after Shadow the Hedgehog, it gives attention to Rouge and Omega, and it has a creepy villain.

Any problems are small continuity errors. Mostly dealing with Mephiles' time travel or powers.

Last Story

The Last Story is mostly trash. The only exception is going super and taking out Solaris. The "death" and the "kiss" were both awkward, crappy scenes. At least they tried to act serious. Unfortunately when people say the worst moment in Sonic history, it's thanks to this. It's a shame, because with a little rewriting it might have been salvageable.

There is some sad beauty in undoing the entire thing, but it also makes everything that happened worthless. Up for debate!

Sonic Colors

Beginning

They drag this out, but: Sonic and Tails are here to save aliens from Eggman! Ugh. I like the Black Arms--I liked the Cosmo and the Meterex--but these guys don't do it. It can't be a character and a power up. How am I supposed to care for that? Wisps aside, annoyingly revised Orbot and *new* Cubot act like a poor villain's Scratch and Grounder. Their attempts at humor suck. I almost wish there was a "rated E-10 for everyone below ten."

Every cutscene has a joke, but none of it's funny.

Middle

The middle quickly turns repetitive. Sonic cracks a shXt joke, fights a robot. The same robots, even. Somewhere in here Eggman tries to mind-control Tails. Pretty cheap. But what makes it worse is that it fails within 2 seconds. No Sonic vs Tails here.

End

One good part of the plot is trying to focus on Sonic and Tails' friendship. In some ways it's there, but for the most part Sonic acts lifeless to his almost-brother while Tails treats Sonic like an idiot as he's trying to save the world.

There is a nice moment before the boss fight that tries to make the tone more serious. Next, Colors breaks the modern tradition of a ending Super Sonic fight (although there is one on the DS). In the final cutscene Sonic is cheesily saved by the wisps. He also says goodbye to his new friend Yacker, a shXt Chip replacement that hangs out with Tails more than Sonic. Oh, and Tails finally go his hopeless translator working, too. That's. Just. Stupid.

 Conclusion

I never really understand why people like Sonic Colors. Maybe if your a big Tails fan (since he had a bigger role)? I think coating the story in light, silly humor was a mistake. Most of the story makes me want to cringe. It's sad.

06 had it's flaws, but it is also one of the more interesting stories overall. It had more serious stakes yet it balanced a large cast. Elements like flashbacks and timetravel gave it layers, too. Had the gameplay been perfected--even with the Elise as a main character--Sonic 06 might have been praised instead of hated.

The bottom line is that Colors had a very bad plot. 06's plot is fairly good.
Just I don't get it. How can one like that over 06?

This is actually my last major point, here. Wow, 10 big reasons 06 is better. It just is!
I'll be posting a reflection of the whole thing soon...
