Summary
Legendary, the tracks are full of nostalgia and spirit. The tone shifts from the happier Green Hill to the dangerous Marble Zone, and onward, helping define the first game's settings and the Sonic franchise.
Best Song: Starlight Zone
Runner-Up (s): Credits Theme, Special Stage, Spring Yard
The Starlight Zone music, much like the level itself, is a sudden break from the roughness of levels past. It's gentler and happy, but not overly so.
Worst Song: Laybrinth Zone
Runner Up (s): Final Zone
Laybrinth Zone seems harsher on the ears and less enjoyable than the other tracks.
Final Ranking: C
The music, for it's time, is awesome, and nostalgia still makes it worth the time of any Sonic fan. However it's not as good compared to the quality and variety future games were able to offer. It's undeniably "game-y" (so it's comparable to "similar" games like Mario).
