Sonic Advanced 3 OST Review

Summary

Sonic Advance 3 was the last Sonic Gameboy game. It was the last Advance game. It was the last title with the original/transitional cast. And technically the last official 2-D game for a while (Rush was "2-D.5"). It doesn't have the same reputation as the Rush series, but the game has its place with fans, and so does the music.

This time around there are three acts and map music. They are remixes of each other, usually increasing with speed. Added in are parts of the previous Advanced games and Sonic Battle, making it, musically, like a combo of all the Sonic-Gameboy titles past.

And more Green Hill remixes. Yay. They're actually good, though. Oh, and a random mix of the Chao races in SA2 serves as the menu music.

Best Song: Cyber Track Act 3

Runner-Up (s):Cyber Track Act 1/2. Chaos Angel 1-3, Sunset Hill 1-3, Bosses/Final/Nonaggression/etc, Twinkle Snow Act 1, Endings, Maps

Cyber Track has got that catchy digital-type theme down pat, but Act 3 also gives it some dramatic anticipation, like an electronic bomb is gonna' go off or something. Or maybe just an alarm clock. But it sounds cool.

Worst Song: Toy Kingdom Act 3

Runner Up (s): Toy Kingdom Act 1/2,  Route 99 Acts 1 & 3, Special Stage, Invincibility, VS 2-7

Toy Kingdom is lively, but but Act 3 it just gets more annoying, not less.

Final Ranking: C

I think the Advance trilogy ends on a high note. It's got that funkiness from battle but isn't overbearing, and it's got the essence of Advance 1/2 as well. It shows how that series' BGM pushed the limits and grew.
